Puerto Armuelles

The nearest town to Coconut Beach Community is the historical coastal community of Puerto Armuelles. Just 8km, or a scenic 15-minute drive west of Coconut Beach, this quaint village was once the hub for United Fruit Company’s banana plantations. “Puerto” provides everyday amenities such as restaurants, schools, banks, supermarkets, and a hospital.

This small gulf-side community, with its original shipping pier still standing, is lined with charming clapboard homes, often painted in bright Caribbean colors with rows of palms leaning away from the cool ocean breeze. As you stroll through town you’ll notice the friendly smiling faces of the local people (“Porteños”) that take pride in their relaxed tropical community. It’s a nice place to enjoy a lunch for under $3 at a local restaurant or sit in the palm tree-lined park taking in the view of the town pier and the endless blue horizon of The Pacific.
